A Canadian bar in Brooklyn.
Two brothers of the team behind Noorman’s Kil, Harold and Marcel Simoneau, are bringing a little taste of their hometown of Rimouski, Québec to New York. With the help of co-owner, Thomas Wilson, they aim to serve both neighborhood locals and guests from afar. Inspired by their Canadian roots, UpNorth is a bar that shares their love of Poutine and delicious cocktails. A welcoming yet tasteful atmosphere flaunts a lofty space accented by subtle details. Offering a wide range of drinks, bar fare, and specials, UpNorth has something for everyone.
After having established their previous bar as one of the top whisky watering holes in the U.S. with a curated list of over 400 whiskies, their next venture was to explore the possibilities in other spirits through the art of mixology. Thoughtfully executed cocktails created by award- winning mixologists highlight their aim to discover unique, memorable experiences. We offer 10 beers on tap, including American craft beer and Canadian favorites – Molson, St-Ambroise, Dieu du Ciel – as well as a diverse yet accessible wine list.
Acclaimed chef Tyler Johnson’s menu features flavorful variations on the classic poutine, the unofficial Canadian national dish, accompanied by a grass-fed burger, a veggie burger, and a seasonal salad to start. Other bar fare include hand-cut fries, sweet potato fries, and tater tots with over 10 in-house made sauces. The menu is soon to expand into brunch and café offerings.
Originally a deserted warehouse that stored refrigerated goods, the space was reimagined by architect Alex Meyers (Fjord Architecture). The gut renovation was executed in a collaborative effort by Harold, Marcel and Alex yielding a casual yet elegant setting for a good time. Refined yet unpretentious, the space features a simple yet carefully curated assortment of materials including reclaimed wood, wire-brushed and whitewashed pine cladding exposed brick blackened steel, concrete and solid maple. Our aim is to provide a comfortable atmosphere for both large groups and more intimate evenings out.
